School of Horticulture

LWETB in conjunction with Westmeath Community Development deliver QQI Level 5 Major Award in Horticulture. This full-time programme runs for 50 weeks from September-August annually. Experience the opportunity to learn in exceptional indoor/outdoor teaching facilities including purpose designed classroom and laboratory, polytunnel, glasshouse and the unique setting of the Victorian Walled Garden within Belvedere House Gardens and Park. 
Modules studied include Plant Science, Plant Identification & Use, Teamworking (Semester 1) Soil Science & Growing media, Plant Protection & Plant Propagation (Semester 2) and Fruit & Vegetable production, Garden design and the opportunity to complete 8 weeks paid work placement during the summer (Semester 3)
Completion of the Level 5 Major Award would facilitate progression to a Level 6 Apprenticeship in Horticulture or Level 7 BSc in Horticulture.
Alternatively our popular LEARN – GROW – DESIGN – MAINTAIN component modules are offered at different times during the year subject to minimum participant numbers.
