Longford Youthreach

Longford Youthreach is exceptionally well located on Connolly Campus, on Battery Road, within a 5 minute walk of the town Centre. It has ample parking space at the back of the building for staff, learners and visitors. We have a learner population of 25, both male and female, aged from 15 to 20 years, who would have left mainstream schooling prior to completing the Leaving Certificate and in many cases the Junior Certificate. QQI Level 2, 3 & 4 General Learning full time Courses, provide students with recognised National Certification, enabling them to progress to Colleges of Further Education or employment. Physical Education is an integral part of the Centres response to young peoples general and mental health needs. We have access to the Mall Sports Complex on 4 days of the week, ensuring that all our students are physically active and aware of the importance of daily exercise as a lifeskill. Hot meals are cooked in the Centre by a highly qualified Catering Skills teacher through our access to the Schools Meals Programme, and all students take part in the food preparation as part of their timetabled classes. Extra-curricular activities are also fundamental to our approach, with trips out of the Centre, sporting activities, team-building exercises, music, hair and beauty sessions, barbering courses and Barista courses etc. as regular occurrences once the academic timetable permits. There are 8 staff members, both part-time and full-time, with a wealth of experience stretching back to the arrival of the Youthreach Programme in Longford in 1994-95. The internal facilities of the Centre are very impressive with various classrooms – each with Interactive Whiteboards, a fully equipped and functioning Catering Kitchen, Games Room, Gymnasium and Shower room, Toilets and Outdoor Basketball and Table tennis facilities and seating area. We are also operate a Special Education Needs intervention which enables us to mentor all our students on an individual basis, thereby building respectful relationships between staff and students. It also enables access to Psychological services when the occasion arises. Longford Youthreach opened it’s doors in 2014, having transferred from Granard after a very successful 12 years there. We look forward to an equally successful period in Longford.
